Big Room on Green Brands Panel at Yale

New Haven, CT (April 15, 2009) — Anastasia O’Rourke, co-founder of Big Room, moderated a panel at Yale University’s School of Management today on “Green Brands”.

The panel, organized by Net Impact chapter at the Yale School of Management, included representatives from General Electric, Timberland, Blue State Coffee and the Green Bride Guide. “The need for clear and transparent standards for what is ‘green’ is abundantly clear”, said Anastasia. “All the companies on the panel have struggled to determine what counts as a green product, green operations, and whether and how to link this to their brand. Some have used ecolabels, while others chosen to develop their own standards in-house”.

Audience members probed the panel on their views on how green branding for consumer goods is likely to fair in the current recession. Panelists responded that their commitment to sustainability would weather the storm, but that shifts in messaging towards the cost savings associated with some green products will become more prevalent.
