Participation in the Global Energy Assessment

Boston, MA (April 21, 2009) — Big Room Co-founder Anastasia O’Rourke has been invited to contribute to the Global Energy Assessment (GEA), a large-scale multi-stakeholder, multi-disciplinary research effort akin to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) that is working to:

…help decision makers address the challenges of providing energy services for sustainable development, whilst ameliorating existing and emerging threats associated with: security of supply; access to modern forms of energy for development and poverty alleviation; local, regional and global environmental impacts; and securing sufficient investment.

O’Rourke recently participated in a GEA meeting at Harvard’s Kennedy School with leading researchers from around the world to develop the methodology for assessing the scale and scope of energy innovation worldwide.

“It’s clear how important standards are for the emerging clean energy and smart grid sectors” said O’Rourke. “Just as the Internet took time to develop standards that underpin the (now) global network, emergent networks like the smart grid will take time, intensive communication and transparency in order to succeed at scale.”
